Trump is Right to Jettison the Sovereignty-sapping Paris Climate Change Deal

President Trump reportedly has decided to ignore pressure at home and abroad and withdraw the United States from the Paris climate change accord. Since Barack Obama cynically refused to negotiate and treat this deal as a treaty, Mr. Trump can walk away from it at will. And he should.

Now, if you believe that dangerous climate change is occurring, that it’s due to human activity and that changes to that activity will actually have a perceptible effect on the climate – all three of which are hotly disputed by serious scientists – there’s good news: American entrepreneurs are helping our country greatly reduce greenhouse gases through private sector action, not by government fiat.

That practice will assuredly continue as long as it makes economic and commercial sense, or just makes investors feel “socially responsible.” But spare us the transnationalists’ sanctimonious and sovereignty-sapping Paris mandates.
