US troops find Iraqi chemical weapons
American troops have found chemical weapons at an Iraqi agricultural facility near Karbala.
Fourteen camouflaged barrels contain chemicals that test positive for the nerve gas sarin and the blister agent lewisite, according to the US Army Third Infantry.
In a second instance, near Baghdad, National Public Radio reports that US forces found as many as 20 rockets with chemical warheads at a storage site near Baghdad.
The news comes as American troops occupy strategic sites in downtown Baghdad, including Saddam Hussein’s new presidential palace; and as British forces take Basra and report the death of Saddam’s cousin, Ali Hassan al-Majid, the general known as “Chemical Ali” for his command of the gassing of Kurdish civilians.
