Why were unelected bureaucrats led by Fauci running interference for China?
Lost in today’s incredibly congested 24/7 news cycle is a major story with serious national security implications, namely the apparent efforts of Dr. Anthony Fauci and other unelected bureaucrats in the health field to lay down a “smoke screen” for China in the ongoing efforts to determine how the COVID-19 virus came to be and came to spread around the globe.
Based on reporting by Fox News, the Washington Examiner and others, it appears that the physicians and researchers associated with federal health agencies veered widely out of their areas of expertise and into the arena of policymaking and geopolitics when scrutiny began to become focused on the Chinese Wuhan Lab of Virology.
As reported by the Washington Examiner, email traffic appears to show that Dr. Fauci and Dr. Francis Collins, then head of the National Institutes of Health, worked to silence scientists who expressed curiosity about the possibility that the virus was man-made and leaked from a lab.
Email traffic obtained through FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests and Congressional inquiries showed that Fauci and Collins worked to silence inquiries about China. Numerous medical professionals were expressing doubts that COVID 19 could have a natural origin, yet Collins, Fauci and others inserted politics into the discussion, silencing those inquiries. The Washington Examiner reported,
Ron Fouchier of the Erasmus MC Department of Viroscience warned that lab leak discussions could “do unnecessary harm to science in general and science in China in particular.” Collins sent an email that day saying he was “coming around to the view that a natural origin is more likely” and saying that “a swift convening of experts in a confidence inspiring framework (World Health Organization seems really the only option) is needed, or the voices of conspiracy will quickly dominate, doing great potential harm to science and international harmony.”
“Wondering if there is something NIH can do to help put down this very destructive conspiracy, with what seems to be growing momentum,” Collins wrote. “I hoped the Nature Medicine article [from March 2020 casting doubt on the lab leak possibility] on the genomic sequence of SARS-CoV-2 would settle this.”
Fauci replied, “I would not do anything about this right now. It is a shiny object that will go away in time.” But when asked about the possibility of a lab leak during a White House press conference that day, Fauci argued in favor of a natural origin.
As is so often the case, the justified suspicions and genuine scientific curiosity of many medical professionals could not be stifled by Fauci, Collins and their co-conspirators, especially after US intelligence agencies began issuing opinions of their own, questioning the natural occurrence theory. At this point it remains an open question how COVID-19 came to be and we may never know for sure because the Chinese scientists at the Wuhan lab that Fauci, Collins et al referred to as their “colleagues” have either been silenced by the Chinese regime or have refused to cooperate with international investigations.
In other words, as it turns out, the “conspiracy” wasn’t the one that Fauci and Collins imagined. The conspiracy was in fact in China because, no matter what the origin of COVID 19, the facts remain that China lied about its characteristics and spread repeatedly, pressured the World Health Organization and have refused to cooperate with objective, international investigations. On these matters we get nothing but silence from Drs. Fauci and Collins.
Meanwhile, evidence in favor of a lab origin has grown and can no longer be suppressed by our bureaucratic “betters” at the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases.
Astonishingly enough there are those who say, “What difference, at this point, does it make?” In all of the debate over the response to the pandemic, we must not ignore two vital national security aspects.
The first, that a foreign adversary (China) demonstrated the capability to inflict a deadly virus (perhaps unwittingly) on the world and kill hundreds of thousands of Americans, apparently without consequence. Secondly, unelected bureaucrats apparently conspired to cover up that foreign adversary’s role in the origin of that virus, straying way beyond the field of science to attempt to conceal the truth to limit policy options by our elected leaders.
America must come to terms with the fact that we must not trust Communist China as a trade partner and a supply chain source. We must recognize them as an adversary with nefarious intent, whose huge military build-up threatens to dominate the world and force America to submit to their will.
This inconvenient truth was evidently lost on Drs. Fauci and Collins, who abused their power and authority in service of a foreign regime. The danger posed by unelected bureaucrats concealing information from policymakers and the public cannot be over-emphasized.
America is a nation of laws. It is not supposed to be a nation ruled by men. We have a constitutional republic in which we elect leaders and representatives to serve the people, and to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. Self-perceived elites who believe they know better and take license to lie and cover up facts “for the good of all” are a threat to our republican way of life. When such men conspire to bypass our system, the danger of miscalculation and totalitarianism grows, and historically has led not just to serious miscalculations, but even atrocities.
