Careless talk threatens survival of US government after catastrophic WMD attack

The ability of the US government to survive a catastrophic terrorist attack was severely degraded March 1.

The Washington Post exposed the secret work of some 200 senior government officials who since September 11 have been operating in two fortified locations to ensure that a US government will continue to exist after a genocidal attack on the nation’s capital.

Clues in the article indicate that one of the sites is the Greenbrier bunker complex in West Virginia, built during the Cold War to help elected officials survive a Soviet nuclear attack, but which Congress exposed and opened to the public after the USSR’s collapse.

Today, indiscreet comments about the existence and functioning of such operations, personnel, and sites invites their compromise to terrorists. Careless official handling of secrets ultimately will oblige the US to fight the war on terror disarmed of needed capabilities and more vulnerable to our enemies than we can afford to be.
