Nasty Space Weather

It’s often said that “Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.”  That’s especially true of “space weather” caused by intense solar flaring like that occurring this year.

Such a flares could expose the earth to devastatingly intense bursts of energy known as electromagnetic pulse, or EMP. A recent study by Lloyds of London concluded that  20 to 40 million Americans could lose power for between 16 days and 2 years.  The costs of remediation could run as high as $2 trillion, and many of us would die.
