The Center for Security Policy is pleased to announce the publication of Understanding Black Identity Extremism: Considerations for Law Enforcement, by Kyle Shideler.

The publication comes in the wake of a growing and disturbing trend in recent years of ambush-style attacks against local law enforcement by individuals motivated by the FBI identified as “Black Identity Extremism.”

In the face of political pressure, the FBI abandoned the use of the term and increasingly has shied away from providing local and state law enforcement officers the knowledge they need to understand this potential threat to the safety of officers and citizens.

Shideler examines the roots of major black identity extremist groups, ranging from the 1913 founding of the Moorish Science Temple of America to the black nationalist Nation of Islam, to the roots of the Black Panther Party founded in a half century long effort by the Soviet Union to radicalize African Americans,  Understanding Black Identity Extremism: Considerations for Law Enforcement provides the historic and ideological context that law enforcement officers, and the general public, need to understand the increasingly radical Black Lives Matter movement.

Kyle Shideler is the Director and Senior Analyst for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism at the Center for Security Policy where he conducts research and analysis on domestic threats to the US homeland with an emphasis on the doctrines which fuel terrorism and shape the variety of kinetic and non-kinetic threats to America’s security. He is the editor of Unmasking Antifa: Five Perspectives on a Growing Threat, and a contributing author to Saudi Arabia and the Global Islamic Terrorist Network (Palgrave, 2011). His writing has appeared at The Federalist, The Hill, FoxNews.com, and the Claremont Review of Books. He has appeared on Fox News Business, Newsmax, and One America News. He is a graduate of Boston University and was a Lincoln Fellow with the Claremont Institute.
