It’s being called the April Fools Deal – and with good reason. The Iranians have fooled the “willfully ignorant” Obama administration. And together they are trying to fool the Congress, our allies and the public that the “preliminary agreement” unveiled yesterday, but agreed to on April 1st, will keep Iran from getting nuclear weapons.

The agreements’ provisions fall basically into three categories: U.S. concessions that leave Iran with all the infrastructure needed to make bombs. Iranian commitments that, on the basis of past behavior, are certain not to be fulfilled. And verification arrangements that, since Iran is currently thwarting inspections, have little chance of assuring we’ll catch future cheating.

Others will rightly assume Iran is going to get nuclear weapons.

This outcome defines a “bad deal” and we would be fools to pretend otherwise.
