Statement by Center for Security Policy President Fred Fleitz on Iranian Threats Against the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies

The Center for Security Policy condemns the recent senseless threats against our friends with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies for their criticism of the Iranian regime and support of new sanctions against Iran. Tehran’s supposed imposition of “sanctions” against FDD and its claim that FDD has been engaged in “economic terrorism” must be taken extremely seriously given the regime’s record of using violence against critics and dissidents abroad.

These threats reflect the important work that FDD President Cliff May, CEO Mark Dubowitz, VP Jonathan Schanzer, Senior Counselor John Hannah, Freedom Scholar Michael Ledeen and FDD’s many other outstanding experts have done to publicize the serious and growing threats posed by Iran. I note that this is not the first time FDD staff have been threatened by Iran — this happened in the past when Iran threatened Michael Ledeen for his criticism of the regime and its brutal oppression of political opponents and dissidents to remain in power.

The Center for Security Policy is honored to stand with the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies against the Iranian’s regime’s irrational and dangerous threat against this great organization.

Fred Fleitz
