Donald Trump’s administration is sending the most robust signals in a generation about North Korea.  Unfortunately, the dereliction of duty by four of its predecessors has contributed to a metastasizing nuclear danger from Pyongyang that has, as a practical matter, left Mr. Trump with no choice.

So, he has dispatched three aircraft carrier battlegroups to the Western Pacific. Nuclear-armed bombers have been returned to high-alert status not seen since the Cold War.  And Defense Secretary Jim Mattis went to the Demilitarized Zone yesterday with a pointed warning in advance of Trump’s own trip to South Korea next week

Retired four-star Admiral “Ace” Lyons, who used to command the Navy’s Pacific Fleet, has one other recommendation for signaling unmistakably our resolve: Withdraw the many thousands of family members of U.S. military personnel from South Korea who currently amount to hostages for Kim Jong Un.
