‘Committee on the Present Danger: China’ Briefs New York Business and Financial Sector on PRC ‘Unrestricted Warfare’
Steve Bannon, Kyle Bass, David Goldman, Roger Robinson Join Call for End to Underwriting of the Communist Chinese Threat
NEW YORK— Six prominent business leaders and economic security practitioners briefed a standing room-only audience of executives, investors and journalists today at an event sponsored by the newly launched “Committee on the Present Danger: China” (CPDC). The speakers’ focus was on the enormous contribution American enterprises and capital markets are making to the Chinese Communist Party’s growing ability to threaten U.S. security and other interests – and the need to end that reckless practice.
The program was moderated by Frank Gaffney, the CPDC’s Vice Chairman, who described the inspiration for the current incarnation of the storied Committee on the Present Danger brand – namely, the CPD that in the 1970’s informed and helped craft Ronald Reagan’s strategy for defeating the USSR. The CPDC strives to prove as consequential in our own time and it was fitting that today’s discussion prominently featured Roger Robinson, a man who played an important role as the President’s Senior NSC Director for International Economic Affairs in executing the Reagan strategy that ultimately destroyed the “Evil Empire.” Mr. Robinson, who is chairman of the Prague Security Studies Institute in the Czech Republic, described the extent and ominous strategic implications of Communist China’s penetration of U.S. and other Western capital markets.
The other speakers were:
- Author, essayist and pundit Gordon Chang who warned against a trade deal with Beijing that will have the effect of simply perpetuating the Chinese Communist Party’s hold on power.
- Hayman Capital Management co-founder and Chief Investment Officer Kyle Bass who shared the findings of a powerful analysis of “The Quiet Panic in Hong Kong” that offers insights into China’s serious financial weakness.
- David Goldman, President of Macrostrategy LLC, Asia Times columnist (under the pen name “Spengler”) and author, who warned of the cumulative, portentous effect of: China’s theft of advanced U.S. technologies; its immense investment in cutting-edge research and development – a problematic phenomenon exacerbated by the lack of counterpart spending in this country; and the PRC’s success in educating large numbers of “STEM” under- and post-graduate students, often in American institutions of higher learning.
- Dan David, a self-described everyman-turned-financial sleuth who has, as the co-founder of Geoinvesting and lead protagonist in a feature-length film entitled The China Hustle, exposed endemic fraud in China’s financial and other business dealings with the West. David highlighted a chilling fact revealed by his extensive research: Such criminal behavior is enabled and abetted by American firms and banks.
- Steve Bannon, the former Strategic Advisor to President Trump, closed the Committee’s briefing with a powerful warning that paraphrased one of Abraham Lincoln’s most memorable admonitions. Bannon observed that “We are a global house divided, half-free and half-slave. The slaves are the people of China. And such a house cannot stand.” Noting how talented, hardworking and productive the Chinese people are, he observed that they are prevented from realizing their potential because they are enslaved by the Communist Party of China under its dictator/president-for-life, Xi Jinping. Worse yet, we are underwriting their servitude.
The CPDC economic warfare threat briefing was live streamed on Facebook and each of the individual speaker’s segments are now prominently featured at the CPDC’s website, www.PresentDangerChina.org.
The CPDC’s mission statement:
The mission of the “Committee on the Present Danger: China” is to help defend America through public education and advocacy against the full array of conventional and non-conventional dangers posed by the People’s Republic of China. As with the Soviet Union in the past, Communist China represents an existential and ideological threat to the United States and to the idea of freedom—one that requires a new American consensus regarding the policies and priorities required to defeat this threat. And for this purpose, it is necessary to bring to bear the collective skills, expertise and energies of a diverse group of experts on China, national security practitioners, human rights and religious freedom activists and others who have joined forces under the umbrella of the “Committee on Present Danger: China.”
Founding members of the “Committee on the Present Danger: China”—a number of whom were present at the roundtable discussion—include: Brian Kennedy, chairman; Frank Gaffney, vice chairman; R. James Woolsey; Kyle Bass; Dr. William Bennett; Steve Bannon; Mark Helprin; Pastor Bob Fu; Kevin Freeman; Dr. Peter Pry; Dr. Sasha Gong; LTG William Boykin; Hon.
