Congress is considering President Obama’s “strategy” for defeating and destroying the self-styled “Islamic State.” Questions abound concerning the confidence being placed in the so-called Syrian “rebels” he is arming, ostensibly to fight this common enemy.

Ironically, the House of Representatives may vote on this dubious initiative today, just as its new select committee on Benghazigate is holding its first hearing. The murders of four Americans in Libya was the by-product of President Obama’s previous efforts to arm and otherwise help “rebels” there, first to overthrow Muammar Qaddafi’s government and then to get arms to their comrades in Syria.

As a practical matter, the present exercise will surely wind up doing what the last debacle did: Helping enemies of this country and increasing threats to us. Memo to Congress: Don’t go there.
